So I just saw an article online about an American who was sentenced to three years in Russia for trying to bring in a box of ammo. Sure, it seems a bit harsh since he was seemingly just clueless, but you do have to wonder how anyone in this day and age could not realize that transporting ammunition across international borders could get you into trouble.
Also Hamas just offered a ten year truce for Israel to go back to its 1967 borders. This would have an implicit recognition, but Hamas will not give up its major tenet that calls for the destruction of Israel. Jimmy Carter says that "There's no doubt that both the Arab world and Hamas will accept Israel's right to exist in peace within 1967 borders." This just seems ridiculous since so much of the Arab world is committed to wiping out Israel. But one of the territories that Israel would have to give up to return to its pre-1967 state would have to give up the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem. I could see a world where they gave up the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, but I can't imagine Israel ever giving up any control of Jerusalem. Given their aggressive defense and national pride, I don't see anyone expecting Israel to accept this offer, including Hamas. I believe they are using this to try to regain international status as a reasonable organization rather than a terrorist organization.
